Zomato and Swiggy assert compliance with competition regulations in light of ongoing CCI investigation.
An investigation conducted by India’s antitrust regulator has revealed that prominent food delivery companies, Zomato and the SoftBank-supported Swiggy, have violated competition laws. According to the investigation’s findings, the business models of these companies were biased, favoring certain restaurants that they have agreements with, which are listed on their respective platforms. This selective favoritism could potentially harm other competitors and distort fair market practices, raising concerns about the overall competitiveness in the burgeoning food delivery sector in India. Both Zomato and Swiggy, however, maintain that their operations are in compliance with existing competition laws.
