Akram urges India to travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025
Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has urged India to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy in February next year. Akram believes that India will be taken care of “amazingly well” and that it would be great for cricket. He noted that there are positive vibes from the Indian government and the BCCI regarding the tournament.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is determined to host the entire Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan between February 19 and March 9. The PCB has proposed to have all of India’s matches take place in Lahore to simplify logistics and security hurdles. They plan to grant about 17,000 visas to Indian fans who wish to follow their team. The final will also be held in Lahore, along with any semi-final that India participates in, if they qualify.
Akram emphasized the importance of people-to-people contact in the current social media age, stating that having India participate in the tournament would be beneficial for both countries. India has not played an international match in Pakistan since 2008, and the UAE is considered a potential alternate venue if necessary.
The Champions Trophy will feature eight teams, including Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and South Africa. The tournament will consist of two groups of four, followed by semi-finals and a final. Amid discussions about potential alternatives and contingencies if India does not travel to Pakistan, the anticipation for the Champions Trophy continues to grow.
